Skin first
If the base is wrong, no colour will save it. Prep gets half the chair time.
Studio — Mireille Vaux
I grew up mixing gouache in my mother's studio and never really stopped — the pans just got smaller. Makeup, to me, is colour applied to a moving, breathing, badly-lit surface, and that's exactly what makes it worth doing.
I work quietly and fast. I ask what the picture is for before I ask what the client wants to look like, because those are two different questions and answering them in the wrong order is how faces end up generic.
My studio in East London is one room, one chair, north light and far too many jars. Trials, lessons and testing happen there. Everything else happens wherever the shoot is.

Every look is allowed a single risk. The rest of the face supports it.
No fussing in front of the camera. I fix it, then get out of the frame.
